Needing help with mixed fruit tetras?

19 June 2009 Comments

I just inherited 6 mixed fruit tetras and need some info. I have other tetras (black skirt, red and blue Columbian, glo-lite, and neon) so, I know care for tetras but, I have never heard of these. Anyone know or have these fish?

Fruit tetras are dyed fish. They do not live very long because of this. Try to put them in with your glolite tetras. They should be fine.

Mixed fruit tetras can be housed with medium sized tetras of the same temperament. You could put them with your glo-lite and neons and they should do just fine.

I have been in the fish world for some years , often as a marketing tactic fish are given new names every few years , or pick up the name someone gave then at the store (i dont know what it is it remindes me of fruit , hey mixed fruit tetra’s) , I be live that you may have inherited such a fish. Without seeing an image of then i would have no idea , but from the sound they may be dye injected "painted tetra’s" or Painted Glass tetra’s .

Here is link to "Glass Tetra’s"

Being Painted is highly stress full process and your fish may never reach sustainable long term health , but i have seen a few live out most of lifespan. With good care.

These fish are the same as your other tetra’s. They are just died. A horrible procedure that they are put thru, and their color will fade over time. I know you inherited these, but please do not purchase and support this type of fish.=
