loss of colour in my black harlequin rasbora?

29 April 2009 Comments

I have had 4 black harlequin rasbora in a community tank for about 1 yr now, other fish are 2 types of tetras & guppies. This week I noticed 1 of the 4 rosboras has lost it’s black colour in it’s back; What would cause this can’t find anything on web.
Everyone seems healthy other wise, I did have a slight temperature change recently but have stabilized it since then.

    Hi Tree,
Did your Rasbora have a scare recently? That will cause fish to lose color, but more than one should have lost color, unless he or she is especially sensitive.
Is this fish eating? Not eating may cause a loss of color.
The temp change may have been the cause, but again you would think more than the one fish would have lost color.
Does the aquarium have live plants? I’ve found that live plants give fish security and stress reduction and so fish will show their best colors when plants are present.

    Good luck,
    David

I recently went away for 4 days and one of my rasboras has also lost some black colouring. They weren’t fed during that time and there was not a lot of lighting either (i kept it off so they could get some sleep at night). I need to replace the dwindling plant population also.
