My cichlids keep attacking a certain species of cichlid in my fish tank?
I have a 10 gallon tank with 7 cichlids. They are not all from the same store, and all bought on different days. Most recently, I bought a red peacock cichlid. The first one was half eaten within 24 hours. The second one I bought the next day, lasted a week and I just found it dead at the bottom of the tank. All the fish are eating well and have plenty of swimming room. None of the other fish have ever had problems with each other. Any idea, why only this species of cichlid keeps getting attacked? I really want to add this color of fish to the tanks color scheme.
That does not answer my question. It is only that species of cichlid that gets killed. And for now, I am still within the 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon rule. This is about the type of fish, not how many are in there.
The water quality is good and tested once a week. The temperature range is where it should be. And yes, I know they will grow, in which case I already plan on trading in the 2 less attractive fish, or upgrading to a larger tank when my cichlids get too big. Each fish was bought seperately, but this specific breed has been the only one with the troubles
There are pleanty of hiding spaces, and caves, but now that you mention it, that was the only species of cichlid that stayed in their own corner of the tank. maybe it was just not on the same level of aggression as the others. Even if they don’t seem to attack each other.
